Since its premiere on NBC in September 2018, New Amsterdam has attained a loyal fan following who love the characters, relationships, and situations of the series. Thankfully, Netflix viewers finally had the chance to watch the show when seasons 1 and 2 arrive on Jan. 1.

Unlike other medical dramas, New Amsterdam has maintained a rather small main cast for its five-season run. On top of that, the series hasn’t been a revolving door of departing characters and new additions, with only two cast members leaving and one joining. New Amsterdam hospital location
Even though New Amsterdam Hospital isn’t an actual and operational hospital in New York City, the series bases its setting on a real hospital in the city. Bellevue Hospital inspired the titular hospital, and the series has even filmed in the hospital. Likewise, Max Goodwin is based on Dr. Eric Manheimer, who wrote the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital.
Is New Amsterdam ending?
Yes, New Amsterdam will end with its fifth season when the series finale airs on NBC on Jan. 17, 2023. Right now, only the first two seasons of the series are available on Netflix, and it’s unclear if more will join them in the future. But if you want to watch additional episodes, the complete series can be streamed on Peacock and the fifth season is available on NBC’s website.
