Eddie and Venom can fight some interesting characters in Venom 3, including Spider-Man – and here’s who they could come across in their final movie.
Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom are coming back for a third movie as part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and here are some Marvel characters that they can fight in the upcoming Venom 3. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps expanding, so does Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which continues to bring villains and anti-heroes to the big screen, all of them connected to the web-slinger. Although these two universes have been built separately, Spider-Man: No Way Home brought them together by confirming they are part of the same multiverse, making it possible for these characters to meet at some point.
Leading Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is Venom, who got its first solo movie in 2018, and while Venom wasn’t a critical success, the audience’s warm welcome allowed Eddie and the symbiote to return in a sequel, titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In the post-credits scene of their second adventure, Eddie and Venom were brought into the MCU, and the mid-credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home saw them being taken back to their universe, but not without the symbiote leaving a piece of itself in the MCU. Venom 3, then, can see Eddie and the symbiote facing some interesting characters, both from the MCU and Sony’s universe, as well as some that haven’t been introduced yet. Here are seven Marvel characters Tom Hardy’s Venom can fight in Venom 3.
Although the above-mentioned mid-credits scene in No Way Home sets up Spider-Man and Venom finally meeting, this would happen in the MCU, so Venom and Eddie would still not face Holland’s Spider-Man. In order for Hardy’s Venom and the MCU’s Spider-Man to meet, there would have to be another massive multiverse issue that brings them together, but Venom could also fight another Spider-Man. The MCU has now introduced the concept of variants, which is how Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were able to reprise their roles as Spider-Man in No Way Home, so following that line, Venom could fight a Spider-Man variant in Venom 3. Given how Venom reacted to seeing Holland’s Peter Parker in the news, there’s no Spider-Man in Sony’s universe yet, so Venom 3 could see the appearance and rise of a Spider-Man variant that later faces Eddie and the symbiote.
The second antihero brought to the big screen by Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is Morbius (Jared Leto), the vampire. At the end of Morbius, Michael was forced to embrace his new identity as a vampire, but he still has a lot to learn about his new condition and how to control himself in order to avoid more tragedies. Of course, this won’t be an easy process for Morbius, which could lead him to create unintentional chaos and destruction, either catching the attention of Venom and Eddie or crossing paths with them, thus triggering conflict between them. As Sony is preparing the path for the long-awaited formation of the Sinister Six team, Venom and Morbius would eventually join forces, but not before fighting each other.
Another Marvel character that can fight Venom in Venom 3, and who has already been introduced, is Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Michael Keaton). Vulture was the first villain Spider-Man faced all by himself in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but even though he wasn’t killed, he hasn’t returned to the MCU, but he did come back in the post-credits scene of Morbius. In it, Vulture met with Morbius and told him that “a bunch of guys” like them should team up, thus setting up the formation of the Sinister Six in the most confusing and underwhelming way. Vulture is serving as the Nick Fury of the Sinister Six, so he should meet Venom at some point to try to get him to join his team, but Vulture faces the same problem as Holland’s Spider-Man, as he’s from the MCU, and in this case, it wouldn’t make much sense to have Venom meet a Vulture variant. Depending on when Venom 3 takes place, Vulture could show up in Sony’s universe again, and thus fight the symbiote.
Various characters have used the mantle of Prowler, and one has already been introduced in the MCU: Aaron Davis (Donald Glover), a thief and uncle of Miles Morales. Davis appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming and mentioned having a nephew, setting up not only his return as Prowler but also Miles’ rise as Spider-Man. Davis’ Prowler has the same issue as Vulture and Holland’s Spider-Man as he’s part of the MCU, and in order to bring him to Sony’s universe to fight Venom, there would have to be another big multiverse accident. However, just like in the comics, there can be another character going by Prowler in Sony’s universe, making it possible for him to cross paths with Venom in Venom 3. Prowler’s presence could also make way for the introduction of Miles Morales’ Spider-Man, who could be the variant that Venom faces in his universe.
If Sony wants Venom to face a big villain in Venom 3, its best option would be Knull, an eldritch god of darkness and creator of the symbiotes. After being awakened by the “Light of the Creation” when the Celestials started creating the universe, Knull was outraged at his kingdom of darkness being despoiled, so he created the first symbiote, the All-Black, in the form of a sword. The origin of the symbiotes in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe hasn’t been explored, and all that is known is that the bioengineering corporation Life Foundation found a comet covered in symbiotic lifeforms and brought samples to Earth. Venom 3, then, could be the introduction of Knull, who in the comics fought Eddie and Venom (and killed Eddie), and through him, Sony’s universe can expand on the backstory of Venom and the symbiotes.
A Black Cat movie from Sony’s universe is now unlikely to happen, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have an active role in it. Black Cat was subtly confirmed to be part of Sony’s universe in Morbius, in an easy-to-miss Easter egg where Morbius is looking at a newspaper headline, and one of the stories on the banner at the top reads “Black Cat: Friend or Foe?”. Felicia Hardy/Black Cat is a thief, and her crimes could catch the attention of Eddie, who in order to rebuild his reputation after the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, could investigate Black Cat and her actions, leading to conflict between them.
Last but not least, if Sony wants to continue having Eddie and Venom fight other symbiotes and their hosts, a good option for their opponent in Venom 3 is Agent Venom. In the comics, Flash Thompson joined the army and suffered several bullet wounds that led to the amputation of both his legs. Although he had seemed to come to terms with the loss of his legs, Thompson agreed to bond with Venom so he could walk again, and he became Agent Venom, a hero working for the military. Agent Venom could be going after Eddie and Venom after the chaos in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, after which Eddie and Venom are now fugitives, but Venom could see them as enemies, thus making way for some interesting fights against Eddie/Venom and Thompson and whichever symbiote he could have bonded with.
