Top Gun 2 Star Has Perfect Response To Timothée Chalamet’s Favorite 2022 Movie

Hangman actor Glen Powell has the perfect response to Timothée Chalamet reportedly revealing that his favorite movie of 2022 is Top Gun: Maverick.

Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell has the best response to Timothée Chalamet revealing his favorite movie of 2022. Releasing more than 35 years after Tony Scott’s original Top Gun, Joseph Kosinski’s sequel hit theaters earlier this year and was a massive hit with audiences and critics alike. The movie sees the return of Tom Cruise’s hotshot pilot, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, to train a new batch of TOPGUN recruits, including Powell’s Hangman, for a dangerous mission over enemy territory. In addition to earning stellar reviews, Top Gun: Maverick also dominated at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year so far by earning over $1.45 billion.

According to Film Updates on Twitter, Chalamet is a big fan of the movie, reportedly claiming that Top Gun: Maverick is his favorite movie of 2022. This earned a reply from Hangman himself, with Glen Powell quote-tweeting the post and sharing some loving praise for the younger movie star. Check out Powell’s tweet below:

Does Top Gun: Maverick Have A Shot At Best Picture?
In addition to strong reviews and impressive box office numbers, Top Gun: Maverick has been touted as a potential hit at next year’s Academy Awards. The movie is a technical marvel in terms of how the aerial action was captured and put together, potentially meaning that, in addition to Best Director and Best Cinematography, various technical category nominations and wins could be on the table, including Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing. On top of Best Original Song for Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand,” Top Gun: Maverick has a strong chance of being nominated for Best Picture.

While Top Gun: Maverick is likely to earn a Best Picture nomination, it’s much less likely that the film will actually win. The last four movies to win Best Picture at the Oscars are CODA, Nomadland, Parasite, and Green Book, all films that explore social issues and weighty themes with typically heavier dramatic subtext. This isn’t to say that Top Gun: Maverick doesn’t feature any deeper messages or that Maverick doesn’t have a strong character arc, but the film is heavily dominated by action, something that historically hasn’t fared well when it comes to Best Picture. While Top Gun: Maverick has undoubtedly proven popular among the vast majority of people who have seen it (including Oscars voters), it seems unlikely that it will beat out other movies like The Fabelmans, The Banshees of Inisherin, or Tár.

All of that being said, there’s always a chance that Top Gun: Maverick surprises and takes home the coveted Best Picture award. After all, the movie serves as a love letter to the theatrical experience, something that many in Hollywood value, and the film’s dedication to thrilling and pleasing audiences is undeniable. It remains to be seen how the movie will fare at the Academy Awards ceremony next year, but the Top Gun sequel is undoubtedly a 2022 fan favorite for many viewers, including, clearly, at least one of this generation’s biggest movie stars.
