There’s just some members of the Chicago P.D. family that we’ll never forget, and Detective Antonio Dawson is definitely one of them. Played by Jon Seda from Season 1 through Season 6, Antonio was Voight’s (Jason Beghe) loyal second-in-command. However, towards the end of his time on the Investigative Unit, he began to struggle with painkiller addiction and eventually moved to Puerto Rico to continue his recovery. Fans haven’t seen him since, so does that mean Antonio’s gone for good? Well, never say never. In response to a recent fan’s tweet that said, “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS ANTONIO Back on #ChicagoPd Please?”, Seda responded: “Maybe there’s a portal that leads to Chicago? #crossover #LaBrea #onechicago” The joke was a reference to Seda’s current gig as Dr. Sam Velez on NBC’s sc-fi series, La Brea, which is currently in its second season. It follows a group of Los Angelinos who time travel to 10,000 B.C. In a September 2021 interview with Deadline, the actor compared the switch from playing a police officer to a doctor. “I think the shows are so different,” he said. “Being part of something that is such an adventure, mystery, drama is exciting. I’m just glad to be a part of it. And yeah, maybe not in cop mode, but I think Dr. Sam will tend to want to help as many people as he can.” Seda continued, “Playing a former Navy Seal, doctor, father, husband, plus action and adventure—sign me up. There are so many colors and layers that exist within this character. I’m still finding them all as we go along. That’s what attracted me as an actor, there was a lot of stuff to work with.” Watch Chicago P.D. on NBC Wednesdays at 10/9c and next day on Peacock.
