If you had the fortune of streaming Tom Holland’s Uncharted this past weekend, then you probably were blown away by the amazing story of Nathan “Nate” Drake. But if you haven’t, here’s a quick rundown on what the exciting, Street-smart Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada, who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together. With a synopsis like this, it’s not a shock that the story captivated many. What is a shock is the fact that fans haven’t got word on a sequel despite the film’s popularity. What’s the hold-up? Here’s what we know so far.
Will Uncharted have a sequel?
Today, no news confirms that an Uncharted sequel is on the way. However, being that the game has multiple story arcs as well as a few spin-offs, it wouldn’t surprise us if Sony Pictures does decide to greenlight a second installment. Additionally, having in mind that the 2022 film left on a somewhat cliffhanger — Nate’s brother, Sam, being shown at the end of the movie imprisoned but otherwise alive and well — there’s a pretty good possibility that there is still more of Nate’s story in store for audiences.
What could Uncharted 2 be about?
Should we receive a sequel, it’s fairly difficult to determine what exactly it will be about, especially since the film doesn’t follow the video game to a T. Nevertheless, we predict that it will be about how, against all odds, Nate and Sam reunite. Also, perhaps the sequel will touch on what Nate’s fellow adventurer, Sully, is up to now after he wasn’t able to secure all of the Magellan expedition treasure. (Maybe he’ll join Nate once more?)
Will Tom Holland return for Uncharted 2?
If Uncharted’s not-yet-confirmed sequel does follow Nathan Drake’s life, Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Tom Holland is someone we would expect to reprise his role. The actor has expressed his love for the video game franchise in the past, so it’s safe to say this film is a passion that he won’t turn his back on anytime soon. “I just love this game. It’s so exciting,” Holland stated while playing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End alongside YouTuber Jacksepticeye. “That’s what we wanted to try to create with the film — an experience similar to the games, but with a story point of view that we’ve never seen before.” But it would be beside us to not mention that Holland plays a young Nate Drake whereas the character in the game is much older. Having said this, there’s a possibility that the sequel will follow Nate’s life as an older and wiser man, meaning a different actor could be cast rather than Holland. Anything’s possible.
