The Chronology of Water: Kristen Stewart cuts her teeth alongside Ridley Scott

Is Kristen Stewart on her way to becoming master Ridley Scott’s young palawan?

After making her debut directing shorts with Scott Free, the Twilight star confirms her status as a director for the feature film The Chronology of Water , which the iconic director of Alien is producing . Imogen Poots is, meanwhile, announced on the main role of the film which will adapt the memoirs of Lidia Yuknavitch. Stewart will co-adapt the screenplay with Andy Mingo.

Winner of the Reader’s Choice Award at the 2012 Oregon Book Awards and a finalist for the PEN Center USA Creative Nonfiction Award, this memoir is a lyrical journey through a life saved by art. A young woman finds her voice through writing and her salvation as a swimmer – ultimately becoming a triumphant teacher, mother, and singular modern writer. The story of a survivor and an honest and sexually abrasive coming of age, the film is a journey down memory lane of Lidia Yuknavitch’s inner life.

“Lidia’s memoir pays homage to bodily experience, in a radical way,” Stewart said. “Making that physical experience feel vital to me and what that impetus means…is that it absolutely has to be a movie. This project has been simmering for five years with the help of Scott Free, who I have privilege to be among my partners and friends. Imogen Poots will carry this film and the staggering weight of Lidia’s life. She can handle it. I’m very lucky to have her.”

Scott and Michael Pruss of Scott Free are producing the film alongside Mingo. Rebecca Feuer of Scott Free will serve as executive producer. Ridley and I are thrilled to be working with Kristen again, this time for her directorial debut, adapted from the extraordinary memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch,” Pruss said. “Just as we’ve seen in Kristen’s shorts as a director, I have no doubt that she will bring that same level of style, uniqueness, and fearless emotionality to The Chronology of Water . , having the opportunity to work with Imogen – who is tailor-made for the lead role – is incredibly exciting. The combination of their talents will undoubtedly produce something exquisite for moviegoers everywhere.”

Stewart teamed up with Scott Free in 2017 for her first short film Come Swim , which she wrote, directed and screened at Cannes and Sundance, after collaborating with them as an actress in Jake’s Welcome to the Rileys . Scott, and Equals from director Drake Doremus’ A24. She recently received the best reviews of her career for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer , by Pablo Larrain.
