Charleston native, ‘Outer Banks’ star Madelyn Cline in new ‘Knives Out’ movie

If you’re planning on visiting the cinema this weekend for a post-turkey-coma flick, consider a new movie featuring a Charleston native.
Madelyn Cline, the actress originally from Goose Creek who plays a leading role on Netflix series sensation “Outer Banks,” will be on the big screen for “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” The mystery and crime comedy is a sequel to 2019′s original “Knives Out.” The movie was written and directed by Rian Johnson and starred Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon and more. The all-star cast also included Edi Patterson, who plays Judy Gemstone in Charleston-filmed comedy series “The Righteous Gemstones,” and Jamie Lee Curtis, who was in the Lowcountry in 2018 to film one of the recent reboots of “Halloween.” In this upcoming “Knives Out” movie, famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc will travel to Greece for his latest case. Craig returns as a leading character and will be joined by Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke, Hugh Grant and our own Cline.

Cline plays a character listed in IMDb’s log as “Whiskey.”
Released stills from the film include Cline on the back of a Vespa, in a ballgown at a dinner table and lounging on the beach with a drink in hand. The trailer features much of the same, in addition to a sneak peek of the plot. In summary, a tech billionaire invites his friends for a getaway on his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc is called into action. The whodunnit will be out in theaters on Nov. 23. Among local movie theaters showing the film are the Terrace on James Island, Citadel Mall Stadium 16 in West Ashley and Regal Palmetto Grande in Mount Pleasant.
