Is Chucky season 3 happening?

When it comes to horror movie villains, they all have one thing in common, they never really die, do they? There’s Jason, Freddy, and our favorite possessed doll, Chucky. That said, is Chucky season 3 going to happen?

In the movie franchise, Chucky always found a way to come back to hunt his victims (or find new ones). Charles was even lucky enough to find human bodies to possess. This isn’t any different in the TV series. Even though many fans were skeptical about the Syfy series, it turned out to be pretty great. Fans also love that it arrived just in time for Halloween. Needless to say, we were all overjoyed to learn that it had been renewed for a second season. We even got some amazing cameos from OG favorites. If you haven’t watched the series, you’re missing out. Stream the first season on Peacock, most season 2 episodes are streaming on fuboTV. Now, what about a third season? Is it in the works? Here’s what we know!

Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, season 3 plans are not official. Syfy has not yet announced a renewal. However, a cancellation hasn’t been reported, either. It’s not strange for a series to not get a renewal right away. Networks often prefer to wait to see ratings and numbers before making a decision. That could be what’s happening here. But when you look at the numbers, it’s not looking too good.

According to TV Series Finale, Chucky season 2 averaged a 0.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic and reached 236,000 viewers in live+same day ratings. Sadly, these number are down 37% in demo and 31% in viewership compared to season 1. Yikes, those are numbers that are tough to ignore. And, as you know, Chucky also airs on the USA Network, but things are great there, either  The same source shares that Chucky season 1 averaged 0.10 in ratings and 250,000 viewers in live+same day ratings. These numbers are 18% in demo and 20% in viewership. But because it airs on both networks, will the numbers be combined? Will it be considered enough to renew the series? As soon as we learn more, we’ll update this post!
