Jeremy Clarkson’s retort as Richard Madeley gets name wrong

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Jeremy Clarkson called out Richard Madeley during last night’s show (Oct 16) after the Good Morning Britain presenter called him by the wrong name. Madeley, who has been one of the main relief presenters on GMB since 2017, appeared on the show last night to win some money for charity. As Madeley walked into the studio, he went to sit down in the wrong chair – preparing to position himself in Clarkson’s seat rather than in the one contestants sit in. Afterwards, the star embarked on his first round during which he made a blunder which tickled fans watching along at home, The Mirror reports. Clarkson, 62, asked Madeley: “Which of these abbreviations is used when someone wants something done immediately?”

The Grand Tour star then read out the four potential answers to Madeley, allowing him to select what he believed to be the correct answer. It was then that the ITV presenter got Clarkson mixed up with former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant. Madeley, who is often compared to tactless fictional radio presenter Alan Partridge, told Clarkson: “I shall answer ‘As Soon As Possible’, Chris, it’s ‘A’. Final answer.”In a blunt response, Clarkson said: “I’m not Chris,” leaving the audience in stitches. Madeley realised his mistake and laughed it off, before asking: “Does that happen [often],” with Jeremy telling him: “You look young but you’re senile.” The pair then began chuckling, with Jeremy saying: “This is gonna be great this show,” with Richard telling him: “It’s going well.”

Clarkson then impersonated his predecessor when asking Richard for his final answer, once again sparking giggles from the studio crowd. Madeley later told Clarkson that his wife, Judy Finnigan, had reminded him to not call Clarkson by Tarrant’s name before his appearance on the show. Perhaps Madeley accidentally calling Clarkson ‘Chris’ can be forgiven, as he appeared on the show back in 2004 with his wife when Tarrant was host. Madeley spilled: “The last thing that Judy said to me before I came on was whatever you do, don’t call him Chris.” Clarkson then got his own back on the guest, replying: “Anyway, Piers,” pretending to mix him up with former GMB host Piers Morgan.
