Welcome to Poguelandia. After more than a year of waiting, we’re finally getting updates about Outer Banks Season 3 — including news about the buzzy Netflix drama’s premiere date.
We last saw John B. (Chase Stokes) and his friends more than a year ago when the second season of the buzzy Netflix drama aired. The finale presented a big surprise to us: Big John (Charles Halford), John B.’s dad who’s been absent since the start of Outer Banks Season 1, is alive! It’s unclear what’s going to happen in Season 3, but we are definitely hoping for a father-and-son reunion as well as more exciting adventures featuring our favorite Pogues.
Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the series follows a group of teens known as the Pogues, who are, as John B. describes, the “lowest member of the food chain.” John B. and his friends embark on a journey to seek the truth behind his father’s disappearance and must face off against the rival Kooks, as what begins as a curious quest transforms into a deadly treasure hunt. Season 1 of Outer Banks premiered in April 20, 2020 and its second installment was released July 30, 2021. Here’s everything we know so far about Outer Banks Season 3.
During Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event on Sept. 24, the streamer confirmed the Pogues will be back for Season 3 sometime in 2023.
In addition to release details, Tudum granted us with a first-look teaser for Season 3. Everything starts off looking rosy for the Pogues, despite being stranded on an island. It’s all coconuts and puka shells until we see the car chases, hand-to-hand combat, and imminent danger that lies in store for the OBX friends in Season 3.
When is Outer Banks coming back?
The Pogues will return in 2023.
On Feb. 28, Outer Banks’ official accounts posted photos announcing that production on Season 3 has begun. With that start date, we have our fingers crossed for an early 2023 release.
When Is Outer Banks Coming Back?
No exact release date has been announced for Season 3, but Netflix has confirmed it will be in 2023.
What Happened in Outer Banks Season 2
Similar to Season 1, Outer Banks Season 2 ended with a near-death experience for the Pogues. Much of the Netflix show’s second installment followed John B., Sarah, JJ, Kiara, and Pope as they tried to locate and retrieve the lost Cross of Santo Domingo. The season finale saw the crew secretly board the ship the Coastal Venture and attempt to take the cross. They failed after a chaotic shootout, and escaped on a lifeboat. Though the Pogues once again left empty-handed, the episode ended on a positive note as they celebrated being together and in safety — for now.
