Vikings star Katheryn Winnick launches foundation to support Ukraine

Katheryn Winnick was born and raised in Canada in a family of Ukrainian descent, and began studying martial arts at the age of seven reaching her first black belt at the age of thirteen : she boasts the third dan in Taekwondo and the second in Karate; she is also licensed as a bodyguard and runs three martial arts schools. The actress is fluent in Ukrainian, which she considers her native language. She began acting in 1999 after studying at the William Esper Studio in New York. Her international notoriety came in 2013, when she was cast in the role of Lagertha in the hit television series Vikings .
