HBO has confirmed it has renewed Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm for season 12. Larry David has previously said that he approaches each season of Curb as if it was his last, so it will be interesting to see how this impacts on the creative process for season 12. Originally airing in 2000, the show followed a semi-fictional version of comedian, writer, and producer Larry David, the co-creator of Seinfeld as he gets himself into all manner of awkward situations.
Larry David’s Seinfeld follow-up has now been running for longer than the iconic sitcom, having returned to screens after an eight-year gap with season 9 in 2017, season 10 in 2020, and season 11 in 2021. It’s now confirmed that the fictionalized version of the Seinfeld co-creator will return to the network after he almost died at the end of Curb season 11. Curb season 12 was earlier confirmed by Larry David and showrunner Jeff Schaffer, with the creative team working on story outlines. The official network confirmation by HBO is a positive sign that these story outlines have been completed ahead of shooting commencing on Curb season 12. Here’s everything currently known about the next season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Renewal
Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David
HBO’s confirmation of Curb season 12 heavily implies that production is about to begin on the next season. Larry David had previously confirmed more episodes of Curb were forthcoming at a TV Academy event in April 2022. This was later confirmed by Jeff Schaffer, who has been a producer, writer and director on the show since Curb season 5 in an interview published weeks prior to HBO’s confirmation of Curb’s season 12 renewal.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Cast: Who Will Return
Jeff and Susie with Larry from Curb Your Enthusiasm
It’s highly likely that the core Curb cast will return alongside Larry David for season 12. Jeff Garlin, who plays Larry’s friend and agent, Jeff Green, is also a producer on Curb Your Enthusiasm, so is a safe bet for returning. With Jeff Garlin back, he’ll likely be joined by Susie Essman as his on-screen wife. Other recurring cast members like Ted Danson, Cheryl Hines, J.B. Smoove and Vince Vaughan will also be expected to return, given the loyalty that David appears to foster in his co-stars.

Aside from Larry’s day-to-day awkward interactions with those around him, each season of Curb Your Enthusiasm has an overall story arc. Beginning with a burglar drowning in Larry’s pool, Curb season 11 followed the impact of this on production of Larry’s new TV show, Young Larry. Blackmailed by one of the burglar’s relatives, Larry cast terrible actor Maria Sofia and made increasingly elaborate attempts to end his ordeal by overturning a municipal ruling on swimming pool fencing. As Larry has clearly survived his drowning in the season 11 finale, perhaps season 12 will make another attempt to kill off Larry David.
Perhaps Larry succeeded in getting Maria Sofia removed from Young Larry, and is basking in the success of his newest sitcom hit. It’s more likely that Young Larry will be another of Larry David’s failed projects in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Although there would be a good deal of comedy to be mined from Larry’s new show being such a runaway hit that he’s desperate to leave, like real-life Larry David did after Seinfeld season 7.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Release Date Prediction
Curb Your Enthusiasm
In the interview in which he confirmed Curb season 12, Jeff Schaffer put forward late fall as a potential shooting date. This would make it slightly too late to turn around in time for an early 2023 slot similar to Curb season 10s January 2020 premiere date. It’s much more likely for season 12 to air later in 2023, perhaps repeating Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11’s October debut from 2021.
