As cancellation fears loom large over Batwoman season four, fans have started a campaign to save the show, getting the attention of its star Javicia Leslie. Leslie took up the role of Ryan Wilder/Batwoman after Ruby Rose, who played Kate Kane’s Batwoman, exited the show in May 2020. At the beginning of season two, Ryan became the new Batwoman upon finding Kate’s suit in the wreck of an airplane crash after the original Batwoman went missing. Following season three’s final twist, it looks like Batwoman still has some tricks up its sleeve, but will the show be renewed for a fourth season? It isn’t clear at present.
The CW recently confirmed that several of its fan-favourite series would be returning for new seasons, including The Flash, Riverdale, Superman & Lois and more, but the network still hasn’t announced whether Batwoman will return for a fourth season or not. In response, the show’s fans took to Twitter to launch a #RenewBatwoman campaign, getting the hashtag to trend. Later, star Leslie retweeted an opinion piece arguing against a potential cancellation, and addressed her fans directly by writing: “Wow!!!!! We love y’all so much!!!” This content is imported from Twitter. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.
The star also further showed her support by retweeting several posts about the renewal campaign. Despite the series’ uncertain status, showrunner Caroline Dries has previously teased the storylines to come for Leslie’s Batwoman in a potential season 4. The season 3 finale saw Ryan foil Marquis’ plan to dump acid on Gothic City and reunite with her family before the final moments of the episode showed a mysterious figure emerging from where the acid was dumped and attacking a reporter at the scene.
According to the show’s boss, Ryan meeting members of her biological family is a path that needs exploring further, with Dries confirming that Batwoman’s half-brother Marquis (Nick Creegan), as well as her biological mother Jada Jet (Robin Givens), will reprise their roles should there be a new season. marquis jet, batwoman season 3 “[Ryan reuniting with her biological family] was more important to us. Whether or not it sticks is to be seen, if we get a season four,” Dries revealed in March. “Ryan having a biological family, in my opinion, enriches her character and widens her world,” she continued, teasing that Ryan’s biological father may also make an appearance in the future too. All the more reason to see what lies ahead for Batwoman, right?
