Giancarlo Esposito opens up about passing on a role in Loki in the hopes that he’d nab a bigger one in the MCU. With a long acting resume, the actor is known for iconic films like Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, and the Maze Runner franchise. In recent years, however, Esposito has pivoted his focus to TV roles by playing Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and its prequel show, Better Call Saul, as well as assuming the role of Moff Gideon on Disney+’s The Mandalorian.
The actor isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Despite a packed schedule, he’s also looking to join the MCU. Esposito has been vocal about wanting to work with Marvel Studios, even recently confirming that he’s had talks with Kevin Feige and his team, although he didn’t reveal what role it was for. He hasn’t shared any specifics about it, or whether or not there’s a chance that it’s going to pan out anytime soon. Now, however, Esposito shares new information about his discussions with Marvel Studios.
Esposito attended Fan Expo Boston recently and talked more about his meetings with Marvel Studios. As reported by Liam Crowley, the actor said he was offered a role in a Marvel TV show that has already passed. “I think it was Loki,” Esposito said, referring to the Disney+ series that aired last year. He didn’t elaborate further on this potential Loki role, but Crowley notes that Esposito “alluded to passing on this mystery TV role because he wanted to hold out for a film character.”
