The ending to Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 creates an impossible Darth Vader situation for season 2. The promised rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader finally happened in the series, which served as a prequel of sorts to the first Star Wars movie. Despite struggling during their first encounter in the new show, Obi-Wan regained his strength and beat Darth Vader in the season 1 finale.
While it’s true that Obi-Wan Kenobi completed its story without leaving any loose ends, the door was left open for more adventures. After all, the show only filled a small part of the gap between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, thus leaving room for more to be done in the future. But for now, a second season of the Disney+ series remains unconfirmed, and Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor has admitted that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t in development. However, the actor has expressed confidence that Disney is just “biding their time” and that a continuation will happen eventually.
If Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, it’ll have a massive challenge on its hands in terms of how it will move on without Darth Vader. The Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader fight is now behind them, which is why it’s likely that the next season will tell a new story, complete with a new antagonist. The problem with that, though, is that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1’s villain was none other than Darth Vader himself, a cinematic icon and one of the most notorious movie villains of all time. Regardless of the impressive size of the Star Wars rogues’ gallery, it’s hard to imagine the franchise settling on a character who can equal – much less top – a villain as big as Anakin Skywalker. Unfortunately, there’s a good chance that whoever gets this role won’t be exciting or as memorable as the one the show already used.
