Legacies: Who survived the war against the gods? Who died?

“This Can Only End in Blood” finally delivered on the war Legacies had been promising since introducing the Gods wished to kill Hope. But who survived? Who died? What was the fallout?

In Kaleb’s death, Hope challenges Ken to a fight he can not turn down. However, Hope has no plans to die quickly. So, instead, Hope and Ben put the finishing touches on choosing a battle weapon while the rest of the Super Squad prepare for the impending fight. But, Ken does not appear first.

Instead, conflicting with Hope head-on is Aurora, finally getting her opportunity to take revenge on Klaus by killing his daughter. Except, Aurora is turned by Hope’s plea for Aurora to stop the cycle of violent retaliation. Klaus lived that way for a thousand years, but that is not all he was capable of. That is not all Hope can do, and she encourages Aurora to do the same.

Although Aurora appears to side with Ken at first, she changes sides just in time to sacrifice herself to save Hope. Aurora’s sacrifice concludes their conflicts and handles Aurora’s remaining feelings of love and hate for Klaus. But, Aurora is not the only casualty of the war.

Alaric kills Jed while he is in his wolf form while Jed attempts to attack Lizzie and MG. Indeed a devastating blow to Ben and the Super Squad. But, MG also gets the short end of the stick, receiving far too many werewolf bites for Lizzie to siphon out all the toxin. So, sadly, MG dies as well.

But, given Limbo’s existence, how many deaths are genuinely permanent? MG and Jed’s deaths have them join Kaleb and Landon in Limbo. But, while Landon may play a vital role in the episode, his reunions with his friends are anti-climactic at best.

Kaleb, MG, and Jed barely spend a second, if at all, acknowledging they are reuniting with Landon, their friend, long after his initial disappearance into Malivore. Instead, Landon is a plot device rather than a friend to send Kaleb, MG, and Jed back to life. But, this is not a decision to make lightly.

Landon sending the three back strips him of some parts of his soul, forcing him to lose elements of his empathy. Although it is a price Landon is willing to make to save his friends, Legacies does not even grant the audience a chance to see Kaleb, MG, and Jed say goodbye. However, their re-appearance in the war may be more vital to the episode.

The Super Squad as a unit, Cleo appearing in the war’s final moments, uses teamwork to defeat Ken. But, it comes at the expense of another life. Just before Jed, MG, and Kaleb’s arrival, Ethan uses his powers, knowingly sacrificing himself to save Lizzie from dying in the explosion.

Jed refers to Landon’s willingness to sacrifice his soul for his friends with the promise to live the best life he can during a happy reunion with Ben. Meanwhile, Ethan arrives in Limbo to be met by Landon. So, what does this mean for the upcoming Legacies series finale?

With the war already dealt with and Ken dead, Legacies has already concluded its primary threat. Although it is uncertain what will become of Ethan and Landon or how exactly Klaus comes into the story, the series finale should have all the room it needs to tie up loose ends and deliver a conclusion that acts as a definitive ending to the show.
