He’s also taller than the actor who plays his boss, Jason Beghe, who is 5’10” as well. In fact, the only cast member Flueger is shorter than is LaRoyce Hawkins, who stands at an impressive 6’3″ whenever he’s onscreen. Flueger has been forthright about the role that bravery and risk-taking plays whenever he gets into character. He told Out of One Chicago that it was part of what drew him to Ruzek in the first place.
“I like that Ruzek likes his job. He’s often entering dangerous situations, but still enjoys the work that he’s doing” he explained. “Ruzek always wants to be the first in the door, that’s how much he loves it.”
