The cast for Dune 2 is assembling the army for an epic battle on Arrakis

Somewhat like Baron Harkonnen’s unquenchable thirst for power, the cast of Dune 2 continues to grow with a relentless appetite. Already we’ve heard that newly-minted Elvis star Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Christopher Walken are joining Denis Villeneuve’s Dune-iverse, and yesterday brought the news that James Bond actress Léa Seydoux will also suit up for the war on Arrakis. The synopsis for the sequel warns that war is coming, teasing that, “Part Two will focus on Paul assembling a massive army of Fremen to combat the ruthless Harkonnen, as he essentially becomes a mythical messiah figure to the inhabitants of Arrakis.”

The new casting announcements will certainly put boots on the ground, with Seydoux cast as Lady Margot, who, for those without a Fremen’s knowledge of this weird and wonderful world, is another member of the Bene Gesserit, the same mystic sisterhood which Paul Atreides’ (Timothée Chalamet) mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) belongs to. Margot is also the person who warned Paul and Jessica that they were to be betrayed by the Harkonnens, despite being the wife of the emperor’s consort Count Hasimir Fenring. In Frank Herbert’s novel Margot becomes an ally of Paul in his mission to overthrow the Harkonnens, proving especially useful by manipulating the mind of Feyd-Rautha, the Harkonnens family heir who will be played in Dune 2 by Elvis star Austin Butler.

Butler as the cruel and repulsive Feyd-Rautha is one performance we really can’t wait to see, but perhaps the darkest villain of the novel is also yet to come, with cinema legend Christopher Walken set to play Emperor Shaddam IV. Despite us not seeing The Emperor in the first Dune film he’s essentially the person responsible for double-crossing House Atreides to consolidate his power, all while making it look like it was the work of the Harkonnens.
