Fathers Day is an occasion to celebrate our dads and everything that they do for us—unless of course youre in One Chicago. Many of the fathers depicted in Chicago Fire and Chicago PD as well as Chicago Med are not the best parents. Its safe to say that they will never be Father of the Year candidates with how much drama they bring to the lives of their sons and daughters whenever they appear in an episode.

We have lots of great sibling relationships but our father and children dynamics have plenty of room for improvement. Not only that but several of One Chicagos dads arent great people in general. These are characters who have made huge mistakes or cant see outside of their own heads or just think that the world is supposed to be all about them. A few of them have become characters that audiences love to hate—which is why for this holiday were answering the question of which father in our fandom is the one we definitely wouldnt be celebrating on Fathers Day.

dramatic fathers who make us appreciate our dads even more. Worst dads from Chicago Fire Chicago Med and Chicago PD Pat Halstead Louis Herthum is the father of both Chicago Meds Dr. Will Halstead Nick Gehlfuss and Chicago PDs Jay Halstead Jesse Lee Soffer which is why were giving him credit for both even though he only appeared in the Chicago Med season 2 episode Generation Gap. And that episode taught us that while hes difficult hes not a bad guy.

Based on Wills reactions early in that episode it was clear that his relationship with his father was strained and that Pat was not happy with Will despite the fact that his son had clawed his way up from Canaryville to become a doctor. So we were actively prepared to dislike Pat Halstead as he became his sons most frustrating patient.
But thanks to Louis Herthums nuanced performance we gradually began to see that Pat wasnt as bad as he seemed. He was just unable to truly connect with his son and understand Wills life choices because he came from a bluecollar background that wasnt the same. By the end of the episode the two of them finally got on the same page and Pat admitted that he was proud of his son.
