Apple TV+ has been absolutely killing it recently with their originally programming. Yes, it took them a little while to find their footing, but this year alone they’ve given us three of the 2022’s best shows so far: Severance, The Afterparty and Slow Horses. Looking into the not-too-distant future for the streamer, we’re also very excited about billionaire comedy Loot and psychological thriller Surface, but the one that has absolutely got our attention in a chokehold is Black Bird. From writer Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island, Gone Baby Gone), it tells the James Keene (Taron Egerton – Rocketman, Kingsman), who has been sentenced to 10 years in a minimum security prison, but strikes up a deal with the FBI: befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser – I Tonya, Richard Jewell) and elicit a confession out of him so they locate the bodies for as many as 18 of his victims. All of this must take place in the extremely dangerous confines of one of America’s most dangerous maximum security prisons, and there is a something of a ticking clock element: if Keene doesn’t get the confession before long, then Hall may find a way to walk free on a technicality.
