Who doesn’t love Antonio Dawson? The character was a mainstay during the first half of Chicago PD, and fans have been pining for his return ever since he left in season 6. It makes sense, given his natural charisma and fascinating relationships with the rest of the IU members. Jon Seda, the actor who plays Dawson, has been a busy man since he departed the series, but he’s made it clear that he’s still close with the showrunners and cast. So, as the book closes on season 9, and we look forward to season 10, we have to ask: is Dawson coming back?
Why did Antonio Dawson leave Chicago PD?
Seda has remained a consistent presence on TV thanks to his starring role on La Brea. The disaster show has earned solid ratings and reviews since it debuted in 2021, and its already been renewed for a second season. While the renewal is great news for Seda and La Brea fans, it does all but guarantee that the actor will be too busy to return to Chicago PD in season 10. As one of the main characters on the drama, he will not be able to juggle the busy schedules that come with both shows. On the flip side of the coin, Seda has continued to voice his support for the One Chicago brand, and has even made his love for the different shows known on social media. When images were posted ahead of the Chicago Fire season finale, Seda commented and wrote “Fantastic!” with clapping hand emojis.
The actor’s relationship with PD and company could not be more different than, say Sophia Bush’s, as the actress has been upfront about her unhappy tenure on the show. The door is still open for his return should he decide, and it’s possible he could set aside time for a cameo role or guest appearance at a future date. That said, it won’t be in season 10. The showrunners are already setting up the pieces and story threads ahead of the show’s return, and Seda’s jam-packed schedule all but guarantees that he won’t be part of the season’s arsenal of surprises.
