Howard Hamlin’s death in Better Call Saul season 6, episode 7, “Plan and Execution,” is shocking, but it also potentially sets up Breaking Bad’s vacuum guy. Played by Robert Forster, Ed Galbraith, a.k.a. “the Disappearer,” is one of the only Breaking Bad characters not yet seen in the prequel series, and viewers have frequently speculated on how he and his Best Quality Vacuum store will be introduced to Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman. With Howard’s death in Better Call Saul’s midseason finale, there seems like no better time to introduce Ed Galbraith than now.
Ed runs Best Quality Vacuum, a store that also serves as a cover for an extraction business, giving criminal clients new identities. The character and his operation are first introduced in season 5 of Breaking Bad when Saul explains that the company will help make Walter White disappear if he calls and says the following code: “I need a new dust filter for my Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60 – can you help me with that?” Playing a key role in both Breaking Bad and El Camino, Ed is important to the universe. Although Forster has since died, the character and his business are still expected to have some sort of presence in the prequel series. However, with the Better Call Saul series finale quickly approaching, it is still not known how Jimmy/Saul finds out about Best Quality Vaccum.
“Plan and Execution” ends with Howard confronting Jimmy and Kim in their apartment. Lalo soon appears as well, shooting and killing Howard and ending the episode on a cliffhanger. While there are still a lot of questions to be answered, one of the biggest involves what Jimmy and Kim will do with Howard’s body. While the couple is shady, they haven’t had any experience disposing of bodies. Furthermore, Howard is a prominent figure, meaning that people will come looking for him. Kim and Jimmy could contact Ed to help them, with him excelling at making people disappear. If anyone can help the duo wash their hands of Howard, it’s Ed Galbraith.
