If Dave Bautista could play any DCEU superhero he would be more interested in taking on the role of Lobo. As he stands now Batista is well known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in the MCU appearing in the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers films. He hasnt made it into the DCEU just yet but given the levels of interest from both Bautista and his fans it really seems like its only a matter of time.
Oddly enough Bautista would have been in a DCEU movie this year if it hadnt been for his desire to be in a zombie movie. In May Bautista will star in Zack Snyders zombie movie Army of the Dead on Netflix. Accepting the role meant turning down the chance to reunite with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn in The Suicide Squad though its unclear which character he would have played. It also leaves the door open for Bautista to take on the role of another potential superhero for DC and Warner Bros.
During a recent interview at Justice Con Dave Bautista was asked by a fan to name the DC character he would like to play. At first Bane drops Banes name as a potential supervillain hed like to play though hes noted down several times in the past saying that hes open to playing Batmans opponent. Bautista then went ahead and called Lobo the character he would be particularly interested in. From the interview First appearing in DC Comics in 1983 Lobo was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. The character is traditionally depicted as an alien born on the planet Cazarnia who works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. He was initially introduced to parody Marvel Comics grittier superheroes like Wolverine and The Punisher but as he proved acceptable to DC fans it wasnt long before he became a comic book star in his own right.
Lobo has appeared in several DC animated shows including Superman The Animated Series Justice League Action and Young Justice. A liveaction version of the character appeared in the second season of the Superman prequel series Krypton with Emmett J. Scanlan in the role. At the time Scanlan had plans to star in his own series Lobo Spinoff but the show was canceled when Krypton was cancelled.
There were plans at Warner Bros. to bring Lobo to the big screen for over a decade. At one point Guy Ritchie was hired to direct the Lobo movie before the project ultimately fell apart. In 2012 Dwayne The Rock Johnson said that he was in talks with the studio to play a potential role with Brad Peyton directing though he would eventually walk away from the film to star in Black Adam.
A few years ago it was reported that Michael Bay was in talks to direct Lobo but since then the project has been turning into development hell. Time will tell if Lobo finally makes an appearance in the DCEU. In the meantime you can play Bautista again as Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming Marvel movies Thor Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This news comes to us from Justice Con on YouTube.
