The threefingered salute was a symbol of resistance that gained popularity during antigovernment protests in Thailand that first gained momentum in July 2020. At its peak the movement drew tens of thousands into the streets to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha the former army chief who first took power in a 2014 coup. A keyword search found footage of the same protest in a report in Britains Guardian newspaper on June 2 about activists from Animal Rebellion a pressure group linked to Extinction Rebellion.
