One of the most iconic stars of Hollywood is getting a new biopic and it certainly sounds like it will be holding nothing back Ana De Armas stars as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde a film thats becoming one of the most anticipated of the year. Its set to debut on Netflix and has set the internet alight with its concept.
De Armas who has shot to fame in recent years with roles in Knives Out Blade Runner 2049 and No Time To Die is stepping into the shoes of the famous American icon in a film directed by Andrew Dominik. The film charts the rise and fall of Marilyn Monroe and while of course that legendary story and De Armas main role are big enough reasons for the film to be talked about the biggest reason for the films buzz is that it is receiving an NC-17 rating in America.NC-17 is an obscure age rating that is only given to certain feature films it means that there will be sexually explicit scenes and most likely explicit drug use. Unlike an R rating, an NC-17 is strictly for adults only.
Over here in the U.K the film will almost certainly be rated an equivalent 18 rating. Its also the first NC-17 film on Netflix and it seems like Netflix would not be playing down the story of Monroes life. Oh and just incase you needed more indication the film will be controversial and pushing envelopes director Dominik has said that the film will offend everybody. He Its a film that definitely has a morality about it but it swims in very ambiguous waters because I do not think it will be as cut dried as people want to see it. Theres something in it to offend everyone. While the headline grabbing age rating and implications for the film are a big deal the film also has some big stars attached alongside Ana De Armas. Oscar winner Adrien Brody also features along with Bobby Cannavale Julianne Nicholson and Scott McNairy and its produced by Brad Pitt and scored by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
