WHAT IS THE ZEUS OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY? UNDERSTAND HOW FAITHFUL THE GOD OF THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER IS

As with Thor in God of War Ragnarok Zeus appearance in the Thor Love and Thunder trailer has some people taking to social media to complain. Stating that the deity was not true to his myths many people compared the King of the Gods to his muscular youthful version of Zack Snyders Justice League . But what was Zeus like in Greek mythology? Is the version created by Taika Waititi for Thor Love and Thunder really that different? Lets talk about it.

Son of Cronos and Rhea Zeus is King of the Gods the ruler of Olympus and all Greek deities. He is also described as the God of the skies weather law harmony fate and royalty. Myths of him highlight his novels but there are also examples of heroism and how he defeated his enemies using his wits or his mighty lightning bolts. In the collective imagination Zeus ended up being seen as a middle aged man with gray hair and a long white beard wearing a robe and carrying his lightning bolts. To the Greeks he looked something like this although his beard was dark. With a muscular build—but not a weightlifter Zeus is always portrayed in a serious manner with features reminiscent of his role as royalty. After a plan by Rhea and Gaia Zeus managed to escape the tragic fate that was in store for his older brothers being devoured by Kronos. Thus he was raised by the nymphs of the mountains having his cry disguised by the sounds of the fights of the Curetes warriors.

As he grew older he sought help from Métis Titan of cunning who gave him a potion capable of making Kronos vomit the other Olympians he had swallowed. Thus the war between the Gods and the Titans began and after a long confrontation Zeus and his allies emerged victorious and he assumed the position of King of the Gods. Zeus married Metis after the war but having received a prophecy from Kronos that he would be dethroned by one of his sons repeating the cycle of Uranus and Kronos he ended up swallowing his wife when she became pregnant. For this reason Athena was gestated within him being born already in war armor from the head of Zeus. This is not the only myth in which the God is directly involved in the birth of his children. After the death of Semele his lover and mother to Dionysus Zeus sewed the little gods fetus into his calf allowing the gestation to continue and he was born when he was strong.
